Nice Price Or Crack Pipe: The $45,000 Callaway Porsche 944?
Nice Price Or Crack Pipe: The $45,000 Callaway Porsche 944?-February 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:10:20

Only 23% of you felt that was really worth $100,000 yesterday, and value calculation really is a tough call on a presidential car when the ex-owner isn't even president yet (and there are no photos of him actually driving the thing). Today we're going to explore the concept of rarity; here we've got a seriously rare high-performance car, modified by a highly respected company better known for its work with Chevrolets than with Porsches…

Yesterday's low-mile Mazda RX-4 got our highest Nice Price Or Crack Pipe approval rating yet, with…

According to the seller, the '83 Callaway Turbo 944 made 284 horsepower, nearly double the stock figure of 143, which gave it outrageous-for-its-time performance. In a car weighing 2,675 pounds (or about 200 pounds less than the current Boxster), that's going to be a lot of fun, and the seller points out that it ought to be legal for vintage racing. Only 20 of these little beasts were made, and the seller feels that makes it worth 45 American grand. Seriously cool car, heavy-duty price. What do you think?

For $7,500, Would You Flash The Plastic For This 1970 Citroën Méhari?
For $7,500, Would You Flash The Plastic For This 1970 Citroën Méhari?
Can you think of any car more elemental than a Citroën Deux Chevaux? Well, today’s Méhari is a 2CV stripped of all pretensions, and you’ll now have to decide if its price should have someone paying that stripper. Yesterday’s was priced at a modest $2,500, and needed what the seller...

For $3,500, Could This 2007 Pontiac G6 GT Be Hard To Top?
For $3,500, Could This 2007 Pontiac G6 GT Be Hard To Top?
If you look back on the cars we lost when GM killed Pontiac—including examples like today’s G6—do you ever wonder if perhaps they offed the wrong brand? Here in the U.S., Pontiac is dead as a doornail, while Citroën is simply waiting it out until the day when Americans truly...

The 2017 Acura NSX Is Still The Crazy Fast Spaceship You Can Live With Every Day
The moment I really got the wasn’t when I launched it to highway speed from a standstill in three seconds, egged on by the 573 horsepower soundtrack of two turbos dumping air into a wailing V6 backed by a screaming electric motor whine. It wasn’t the tenth time a pedestrian...

How The Acura NSX Feels Against A McLaren 570S
The new is a hybrid, turbo, mid-engine, all-wheel drive, 191-mph jet without wings, with 573 horsepower and (on this particular car at least) a $204,600 price tag. My boss handed me the keys one warm Sunday afternoon with the imperatives “Have fun. Don’t kill anyone.” By the specs alone, I...

The 2017 Honda HR-V Is Fine
As far as daily drivers go, what you need is something cheap to run that should last forever. Being able to haul around a dishwasher across town the day you’ll need it the most certainly helps, and if the damn thing can plow its way through a snowbank in winter,...

For $7,000, Does This 1961 Chevy Corvair 500 Have A Fighting Chance?
The seller of today’s Corvair says it was once owned by the former wife of heavyweight boxing champion, Buster Douglas. We’ll have to see if its price makes it a total knock out. A whole lot of you were shocked—shocked I say!—to discover that yesterday’s actually existed. The rest of...
