Of Course Jeff Gordon Can Drive A Race Car With His Knee As He Buckles His Belt
Of Course Jeff Gordon Can Drive A Race Car With His Knee As He Buckles His Belt-October 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:30

Jeff Gordon had a bit of a moment at Pocono with the seat belts in the No. 88 car, which must not have been locked in all the way. Either that or the car has become sentient and realizes that Dale Earnhardt Jr.—its regular driver—was not in that seat. One of those!

“You’re not my driver, Jeff,” spoke the evil forces within the race car. “I’m afraid I can’t leave that buckled, Jeff.”

In fairness, I’ve had the same thing happen with a racing harness’s camlock. It looked like it was clicked into place, but wasn’t. Camlocks are great for being easier to pop on and off, but sometimes, it’s hard to get the end of the belt securely into the camlock.

Regardless, Gordon handled the snafu with bizarre calm, keeping the car straight with one thigh as he nonchalantly loosened the belt and popped the buckle firmly back into the camlock.

Fortunately, Pocono only has three turns as opposed to the usual four of most ovals, and Gordon finished fiddling with it relatively quickly. As garbage drivers everywhere can attest (as they pick shredded bits of shrubbery and mailbox out of their car’s front end), turning a car with your knee is considerably harder than just keeping it straight.

Absurdly Close Call Sends Rally Car Flying Over A Spectator's Tent
It’s never a good sign when the World Rally Championship feed cuts abruptly to the map after an off, but that’s what happened when then-WRC2 leader Kalle Rovanpera went off on Stage 17 of Rally Argentina today. Fortunately, no one was hurt despite the fact that Rovanpera’s Skoda flipped right...

Watching Thick White Wall Tires Bend Through An Autocross Is Deeply Fascinating
One of my favorite camera views in racing is the tire view that shows big Formula One tires flex and wobble through turns and over curbs. Thankfully, the amateur version of this is just as fascinating. Look at how much these Oldsmobile white walls flex at an autocross! This is...

We don’t know much about the new , since the racing version of it debuted in March with a funky livery and approximately zero performance stats. Will it make 50 horsepower or 500? Who knows! But with its debut, we at least know that the virtual version will be powered...

The NASCAR Won't Stop Tumbling
On Friday, driver Jamie McMurray apparently blew out his Chevrolet’s left rear tire and lost control in the last practice session before the upcoming race weekend at Talladega Super Speedway. He then collided with another vehicle, went airborne, and tumbled. And then just kept on tumbling. And tumbling. The video...
