Only the Chosen Can Buy This Precious 2009 Infiniti G37x Coupe
Only the Chosen Can Buy This Precious 2009 Infiniti G37x Coupe-April 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:09:45

Interviews are an important part of life, from our first job interview to the all-important interview that proves us worthy of buying a dealership’s decade-old coupe for $19,000. Wait, what?

The discontinued G37 coupe is, and for years, a . It pumps more than 300 horsepower from its V6 engine, can come with three pedals, sounds great, isn’t too expensive, and its looks have held up decently. But buying a used, 9,273-mile 2009 Infiniti G37x from Infiniti of Naperville in Illinois isn’t about your choice in the matter—it’s about whether you’re chosen to buy it.

No, this isn’t Hogwarts or anything. There’s no magical sorting hat determining potential buyers’ worthiness. The dealer selling the car is, however, requiring anyone who wants to buy it to do an interview with its former owner.

Here’s an excerpt from the $18,675 about it all, complete with some nice grammatical and spelling errors:

YOUR EYE’S DO NOT DECIEVE YOU ... THE MILES ARE ACCURATE ... ONE OWNER ... PREVIOUS OWNER IS A CAR ENTHUSIAST ** BEFORE WE ALLOW YOU TO PURCHASE THIS UNIT WE MUST HAVE YOU BE INTERVIEWED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE A GOOD FIT... VERY PARTICULAR ON RE-HOMING THIS ONE IN A MILL-YINN G37X *** PASSED OUR RIGOROUS 228-POINT INSPECTION!!

In addition to the interview, this low-mileage, ultra-clean 2009 comes with a seven-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive, which is what the “x” in its name stands for. The G37x model didn’t come with the manual option, as Infiniti when it came out, but other G37 models did.

But enough about the car. Let’s break down the details of that sale listing:

BEFORE WE ALLOW YOU TO PURCHASE THIS UNIT WE MUST HAVE YOU BE INTERVIEWED BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER TO MAKE SURE YOU ARE A GOOD FIT... VERY PARTICULAR ON RE-HOMING THIS ONE IN A MILL-YINN G37X

So, a dealer, selling a 2009 Infiniti for less than $20,000, is requiring interested parties to do an interview with the previous—keyword, “previous”—owner in order to make sure they’re “a good fit” for “re-homing” this vehicle. This isn’t a multi-million-dollar rare supercar. It’s not a living, breathing pet that needs a safe new home. It’s a 10-year-old Infiniti.

The listing made no mention of whether or not interested buyers would need to bring a resume along with them, or what that resume should entail.

But, as with any other interview in life, stick to the basics: Your weaknesses are actually your strengths, and any conflict you’ve ever had was, at the end of the day, actually your coworker (or car)’s fault.

Thanks for the tip, !

The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado Duramax Isn't Short-People Friendly, But It's Still One Hell Of A Great Pickup Truck
I hate to admit it, but I’ve grown quite comfortable behind the wheel of a bigger truck. There’s something undeniably attractive about hauling yourself into a seat that towers over the other mere mortals on the road, something delicious about controlling a large beast with your own two hands....

The 2021 Jaguar XF Is The Last Of Its Kind
Jaguar plans to go all-electric by 2025, which means the next generation of the XF is very likely going to be all-electric, if it even gets a next generation. That’s because the XF is a perfectly nice car that, in America at least, is completely out of step with the...

One Of The Greatest Touring Cars Ever Is Hitting The Auction Block
The golden era of touring car racing that was the late ‘80s to the mid ’90s produced a number of fondly remembered machines. In the DTM, you had like the E30 M3 and Mercedes 190E. The BTCC gave us the Ford Mondeo with its enormous wheels and that one...

The Car Loan Market Is Still Bananas And It Doesn't Feel Right
Every month or so, sometimes even quicker than that, there will be a new report out about how and, possibly because I’m an anxious person, these stories give me a twitch. A report Thursday says, yes, big, long loans being handed out for big SUVs and trucks are still...

Morgan Updates The Plus Four And Plus Six, Invent New Kind Of Glove Box
I’ve always been fond of the cars made by Morgan, mostly because of their incredible ability to avoid real change. That’s not to say they don’t update their cars in a constant struggle to keep them just usable enough for modern standards—they absolutely do, which is what I’m going...
