Porsche Calls Its Employees 'Porscheans'
Porsche Calls Its Employees 'Porscheans'-December 2024

About a week ago, Porsche released a press release talking about all the new jobs that were being added to build the Taycan, and to make their point that the switch to EV does not necessarily mean loss of jobs. That’s great and all, but I was most struck by one key detail from that release: That sounds weird, right?

Here’s the relevant quote, emphasis mine:

The recruitment is accompanied by the largest qualification offensive in the company’s history. Since February 2019, all Taycan production employees have been trained for their new jobs in temporary qualification halls and other training centres specially constructed. For this purpose, there are 45 different training plans with a training duration ranging from one month to six months.

Now, I get that it’s their company and they get to make up their own names, but we’ve seen what they’ve done to the word “,” so maybe we, as speakers of languages, have a right to intervene here.

The problem with Porschean is that it just doesn’t sound right. Should you pronounce it so it sounds like “portion,” or do you try and pronounce Porsche properly so it sounds like “Porsh-uh-ean,” which sounds weird, too.

Also, if anything, I’d say Porschean is more like an adjective that would describe things that were Porsche-like. “Look at that Porschean vacuum cleaner”, for example. “Your air-cooled hat makes you look very Porschean.”

I think we can come up with something better. Here’s some options to get us started:

• Porschicans

• Porschenards

• Porschelings

• Porschen

• Porschevolk

• Porschekin

• Porschebyterians

I’m sure you can come up with even better options, and I encourage you to. If we come up with something we like, I’ll exert my considerable influence and demand Porsche implement our preferred nomenclature, immediately.

A Man Led Police On A Chase Just So He Could Finish His Hamburger
Have you ever been so hungry that satisfying your burger craving meant more to you than a stint in jail? One man in Louisiana claims that he didn’t stop for the police that were trying to pull him over, not because he didn’t see them or didn’t care, but...

Intense Hypermiling Is Just Another Version Of Driving Like A Jerk
Hypermiling seems like the exact opposite of some idiot hooning around on public roads, street racing and doing donuts and getting in everyone’s way, but the truth is that it’s really just another version of the same thing: Driving like a jackass. I know this from experience and because...

I'm Not Really Sure If This Asymmetrical Lighting Setup On My Pao Works
It’s been slow going, but my little Pao is now almost fully repaired after I smacked into a (possibly inebriated) deer a few months ago. . One of the casualties was a hard-to-replace official Pao yellow fog lamp, so I had to think of some alternatives. I’m testing a...

Suspected Drunk Driver Takes To The Skies
A driver in Michigan is thankful to be alive after launching his car over a freeway overpass last week. Unfortunately, the drink that gave this Chevrolet Impala wings may have been alcohol. Blip: Okay, Peugeot, I Get It Already
The Peugot 104 was the company’s cheap, entry-level car in the 1970s, but there’s one thing it absolutely did not skimp on: telling you that some controls moved up and down. Look at those two little thumb-rollers there for, I think, the heat and fan controls? I’m not exactly...

The Time Has Come Again To Extol The Virtues Of Winter Tires
It’s always a good idea to be prepared for the environment in which you regularly drive. This year, after 55,000 miles, the original equipment tires on our 2018 Buick Regal TourX were down to the wear bars and our Nevadan infrequent rains became a sketchy proposition. The plan was...
