Unboxing and First Look

Skoda Slavia Front View

Already a popular car accessory in many countries, dash cameras are becoming more and more prevalent amongst Indian drivers, and for a very good reason – they can help you get out of a difficult situation and save you a bundle of involuntary expense at the same time. After all, it’s a camera that continuously records the view of the road as you drive and acts as your undisputed eye witness to prove your innocence in case of a collision. Think of it as a slightly rudimentary GoPro for your car.

So the internet is flooded with a whole bunch of dash cams with different specs, varying video quality and gyro based features. While you can get entry level models for as low as Rs 1,500, the quality of these cameras is questionable. Meanwhile, the premium ones start at around Rs 6,000 and come with more features other than basic recording. The one that we have here is the Qubo Car Dash Cam Pro and what makes it special is that it has been developed specifically for Indian roads.

Priced at Rs 4,000 after offers, the Qubo Dash Cam Pro is ready to be used out of the box which includes the main camera (without the display) but with a built-in windshield sticky mount, a 3.5m mini USB cable, double sided adhesive tape and a car charger. More importantly, you also get a pry tool which makes it simple to install the camera on your own.

Now let’s start off with the camera itself, the Qubo Dash Cam Pro rocks a 2 megapixel image sensor with a wide angle lens, of course. The sensor records in full HD i.e. 1080p at 30 frames per second. Like all dash cams in this price range, it comes with a G force sensor that senses if the car has taken a hit. As for storage, the camera supports class 10 SD cards with up to 256GB capacity with loop recording. The latter will automatically overwrite the non-essential part when the memory card gets full. As for the quality of accessories and packaging, we found both to be quite good.

The camera itself is very light yet study although we are yet to find out how well the integrated sticky mount holds up. Now that it’s unboxed and ready to be installed, it’s time to see if the process of mounting the Qubo Dash Cam Pro onto our car’s windshield is as easy as the other dash cams that we have tested in the past. More on that and its performance shall be revealed in the next report so stay tuned.
