Someone Just Paid $22,750 For This Absurdly Pristine 2000 Honda Civic Si-January 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:09:50

Seeing a car that once populated my high school parking lot—a 2000 Honda Civic Si—sell for $22,750 is proof that is out of control. This is a car that usually fetches , or so I thought. Sure, this one only had 10,439 miles, but it also sold for almost as much as a new Civic Si.

The Patrick tested at the end of last year started at $23,900. As tested with a few key options, it came to $24,775. This 2000 (2000!) Civic went for just $2,025 less than that nicely optioned press car.

Is this how old people feel when they see Bel Airs, Mustangs and other cars of their youth sell for absurd amounts at Mecum and the like? I’m just staring at this listing in awe wondering why. It’s a genuinely pretty yet normal car, and kudos to the seller for making bank, but why?

Did the previous owner hate fun? Joy? Nice-driving sport compact cars? Why would you just let a pretty red Civic with a five-speed manual transmission sit so often that it only has 10,439 miles in 18 years? Why? How? The listing notes that the owner was a Honda collector, but was there also a barn full of Lotuses sitting next to this good little Civic that kept them from driving this car, or what?

The listing notes that this is an unmodified example with no accidents. Its Milano Red exterior paint and grey cloth interior look brand new, even after nearly two decades. It still has the original 1.6-liter B16A2 VTEC inline-four, which probably still makes close to its original rating of 160 horsepower given how little it’s been used.

This is enough internet for today. Good night. Now would be a good time to convince me not to chuck my computer into Town Lake, as I am having trouble mustering any convincing reason not to do it.

You can browse the full gallery of basically new Civic Si photos , if you can stand it.

Jalopnik Reviews: 2007 Ford Expedition EL, Part 3
You're Mormon, have a Napoleon complex or travel with a posse. You subscribe to the belief that it's both about the size of the boat and the motion of the ocean. You crave the most comfortable way to get from A to B, not the quickest; your seven friends and...

Jalopnik Reviews: 2007 Ford Expedition EL, Part 2
For a Baby Huey, the Expedition EL is a svelte looking ride. The previous generation 'Peditions (and their even uglier Lincoln counterparts) were too tall for their relatively short length, such that they came across as hunchbacked. By stretching the wheelbase by two feet, Ford created a balanced, well proportioned...

As wee ones, my sister and I wanted a dog, but the old man said no. Dogs control your life, he said, so in our household we instead adopted a string of short-lived b-list pets: turtles, hamsters, fish, a guinea pig and several frogs. At one point, we even had...

Drop-kicking the accelerator is like hitting a crack pipe; the rush is outright mad, instantly exhilarating and altogether unhealthy. A lack of German engineering in a car this powerful is refreshing. The GT500 is as American as Marlboro Reds, 72oz steaks and adult-onset diabetes; wrapping yourself in a flag would...

The more I look at these new Mustangs, the more I understand why LA's Museum of Contemporary Art gave designer J Mays his own show. True, his New Beetle and reborn Thunderbird are insipid, but what he did for Ford's hot two-door has teeth. The Mustang looks even better dressed...

Jalopnik Reviews: 2007 Chevrolet Silverado / GMC Sierra, Part 2
Silverado: **** I've always though an aggressive centerline on the front of a vehicle creates a unified central point that draws the eye forward. The Silverado's got that. One star deducted for the odd looking rear-wheel flares. Sierra: *** Two stars because the Sierra looks like a truck, though the...
