The fastest-selling new cars are mainly SUVs and vehicles that debuted for the 2020 model year according to a recent analysis from iSeeCars.com.
Analyzing over 1.8 million new cars sold from August through December 2019, iSeeCars.com found that overall, the average new car takes 56.8 days to sell. However, certain new vehicles do not last as long on dealer lots. In fact, the top 10 fastest-selling used cars remain on the market for 12.3 to 27.6 days, a range of 51.4 to 78.3 percent shorter than the average vehicle.
“The number of days a new car remains in the marketplace provides an indication of the demand for the vehicle,” said iSeeCars CEO Phong Ly. “A quick selling time could be because of buzz surrounding a new model or because a vehicle has an established reputation of being popular with consumers.”
Seven out of the ten fastest-selling new cars are SUVs, with the Kia Telluride earning the top spot on the list.

Average for All Vehicles | 56.8 |
The Kia Telluride is the fastest-selling new car spending an average of 12.3 days on market, which is more than 4.5 times quicker than the average vehicle. “New for the 2020 model year, the Kia Telluride created a lot of buzz after earning ‘Best in Show’ at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, and Kia’s existing well-received lineup of SUVs have helped it recently reinvent itself to be more than just an affordable automaker,” said Ly. “The Telluride is able to appeal to consumers who want a fully-loaded premium vehicle as well as SUV shoppers on a budget with its entry-level trim that still provides a full suite of driver assistance features.”
Joining the Telluride are two additional Korean SUVs that are new for the 2020 model year: the second-ranked Hyundai Venue and the fourth-ranked Hyundai Palisade. “The Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV is the most affordable SUV on the market, which helps it appeal to practical consumers who might be making their first SUV purchase,” said Ly. “Made by the same manufacturer, the Hyundai Palisade shares the same underpinnings as well as many of the same features as the Kia Telluride, but appears less rugged and has some additional family-friendly features such as power-folding rear seats.”
Rounding out the list of vehicles debuting in 2020 is the highly anticipated Toyota GR Supra, which returns after a 20-year hiatus. As part of the release, Toyota created a “launch edition” for the first 1500 models, and demand exceeded the limited supply with some models selling for far over asking price. “The GR Supra is a partnership between Toyota and BMW, so it combines Toyota’s reputation for reliability and BMW’s high-end interior and driving dynamics,” said Ly. “Toyota unveiled the concept five years before its debut, which led to a great deal of buzz surrounding its official debut in July 2019.”
Three luxury vehicles make the list including the third-ranked Audi Q3, the sixth-ranked Mercedes-Benz GLE, and the tenth-ranked Mercedes-Benz CLA. “The Audi Q3 is the cheapest option in Audi’s SUV lineup, and is praised for its chic cabin and smooth handling,” said Ly. “The Mercedes-Benz GLE is completely redesigned for 2020 and is among the highest-rated vehicles in the competitive luxury midsize SUV segment, while the also redesigned Mercedes-Benz CLA has improved handling and technology with a $3,500 price increase to differentiate itself from the brand’s entry A-Class model.”
Two Toyota hybrids make the list to include the fifth-ranked RAV4 Hybrid and the ninth-ranked Camry Hybrid. “The Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is priced less than $1,000 less than its gasoline equivalent, and this hybrid version of America’s most popular SUV had waiting lists of up to four months in 2019,” said Ly. “The Toyota Camry Hybrid boasts impressive fuel economy and increased its warranty coverage on its battery to 10 years or 150,000 miles for 2020, while offering the safety and reliability that has made the Camry America’s best-selling sedan.”
Completing the list is the seventh-ranked Subaru Forester. “Fully redesigned for 2019, the Subaru Forester offers quality and value with an impressive suite of safety features and class-leading cargo space,” said Ly.
iSeeCars specifically looked at cars that debuted for the 2019 and 2020 model years, as well as cars returning to market after a lengthy hiatus, to see which new car models sell the fastest.

Average for All Vehicles | 56.8 |
Joining the four models that also appeared on the overall top 10 list is the fifth-ranked Lincoln Corsair and a second Lincoln model, the seventh-ranked Lincoln Aviator. “With its 2020 model lineup, Lincoln aims to resurrect the concept of American luxury vehicles and put them in contention with their foreign rivals that carry more prestige,” said Ly. “These vehicles feature refreshed styling over their outgoing models and more upscale interiors, which have been well-received by the public.”
Two hybrids make the list including the fifth-ranked Toyota Corolla Hybrid and the eighth-ranked Lexus US 250h. “Priced less than the Toyota Prius and in-line with the mid-level trim of the standard Corolla, the Toyota Corolla Hybrid capitalizes on the model’s unwavering popularity by offering a more fuel-efficient version that’s accessible to buyers, and its success has led to demand outstripping its supply,” said Ly. “Debuting in 2019, the Lexus UX 250h is the hybrid version of Lexus’ entry subcompact SUV, and the base model costs around $2,000 more than its non-hybrid version making it one of the most affordable hybrids in its class.”
An additional alternative fuel vehicle makes the list: the Audi e-tron, which ranks fifteenth. “Entering the market in 2019, the Audi E-Tron was highly anticipated as being among the first vehicles to challenge Tesla with a luxury electric vehicle,” said Ly. “It appeals to luxury consumers who want an EV without sacrificing a premium interior, and its styling blends in with Audi’s current SUV lineup,” said Ly.
Ranked ninth is the Subaru Ascent, which debuted in 2019. “The Subaru Ascent filled the void in Subaru’s current lineup to become the automakers only three-row offering,” said Ly. “The highly-anticipated Ascent flew off dealer lots in 2019 with reports of demand outstripping supply.”
The Jeep Gladiator, new for 2020, ranks tenth. “The Jeep Gladiator’s launch edition sold out in a day, which set the tone for the popularity of Jeep’s first pickup truck in nearly three decades,” said Ly. “Jeep has a loyal following, and building a pickup based on the wildly popular Wrangler has allowed the automaker to broaden its audience to the popular pickup truck segment.”
Three luxury SUVs make the list including the eleventh-ranked Cadillac XT6, the twelfth-ranked Volvo XC40, and the BMW X7. “New for 2020, the Cadillac XT6 filled a void in the automaker’s popular lineup by providing a three-row crossover,” said Ly. “Both new for 2019, the compact Volvo XC40 is the automaker’s smallest SUV while the full-size BMW X7 is the automaker’s largest showing that these vehicles filled a void in their respective lineups.”
Rounding out the list is the fourteenth-ranked Mercedes-Benz A-Class. “New for 2019, the subcompact A-Class is the cheapest car in the Mercedes lineup, and it brings Mercedes quality and sophistication to buyers who are on a more limited budget than standard luxury auto buyers,” said Ly.
iSeeCars examined the pickup truck segment to determine which trucks sold faster than or close to the segment average of 62.1 days on market.

The fastest-selling pickup is the highly anticipated Jeep Gladiator, which sells in 37.1 days, which is more than two-and-a-half weeks faster than average.
Two Toyota models join the Gladiator with a faster-than-average selling time, the second-ranked Toyota Tacoma and the third-ranked Toyota Tundra. “Toyota trucks are known for their ruggedness and durability, and their reputation for reliability can contribute to their fast selling time,” said Ly. “Toyota is also a pioneer of Lean manufacturing, which emphasizes the importance of producing what is needed to avoid oversupply in the marketplace.”
Ranked fourth is the Ford Ranger, which spends an average of 57.4 days on dealership lots. “The Ford Ranger returned to the market for the 2019 model year after an eight-year hiatus,” said Ly. “Demand was so high for the pickup truck that the automaker had to start overtime shifts at the factory to meet its supply needs.”
Rounding out the list of trucks that sell quicker than the average new pickup is the GMC Sierra 1500. “The GMC Sierra was redesigned in 2019 and added driver assistance features such as pedestrian detection and a surround-view camera,” said Ly.

9 | Audi e-tron | 46.2 |
Hybrid/EV Average | 48.2 | |
10 | Toyota Prius | 48.3 |
Toyota and its luxury brand Lexus account for all models on the list of fastest-selling hybrids and EVs with the exception of the ninth-ranked Audi e-tron. “While automakers like Volkswagen and General Motors have moved away from hybrid vehicles to focus on electric vehicles, Toyota and Lexus have high demand for their hybrid vehicles, which total 13% of their total sales according to Bloomberg,” said Ly.
The Toyota Prius falls just below the average days on-market for hybrids and electric vehicles. “The Prius paved the way for hybrid and electric vehicles, but the Prius continues to decline in popularity,” said Ly. “This could be because of the availability of hybrid variants of sedans with established reputations like the Toyota Avalon and the Toyota Corolla.”
Examining the sports car segment, iSeeCars found that the average sports car remains on the market for 62.6 days. Here are the sports cars that sell quicker than that average.

A second Japanese model, the Subaru WRX ranks second. “The Subaru WRX is very popular with consumers because it is a sporty performance vehicle that’s offered at an affordable price while being backed by Subaru’s reputation for reliability,” said Ly.
Two performance variants of the Hyundai Veloster make the list including the third-ranked Veloster Turbo and the sixth-ranked Veloster N. “The popular Veloster’s Turbo model features an upgraded 201-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while the higher-performance new for 2019 N model features a 250-horsepower turbocharged four-cyliner engine,” said Ly. “Known for being a fun-to-drive hatchback, these performance models broaden the car’s appeal to performance-minded driving enthusiasts.”
Rounding out the list are two Dodge models: the fourth-ranked Dodge Charger and the fifth-ranked Dodge Challenger. “The consummate American muscle car, the Dodge Charger continued to see sales growth in 2019, despite the overall decline of the large sedan segment,” said Ly. “The Challenger’s higher-performance variants, the Demon and the Hellcat have helped boost the car’s popularity, as well as its all-wheel-drive option which makes it the only American muscle car to have that capability.”
iSeeCars determined which brands have the lowest days on market for their new cars. Twelve brands sell their new cars faster than the overall average of 56.8 days.

“A new vehicle’s days on market is one way that buyers can measure how desirable a model is,” said Ly. “While faster-selling cars are more popular with consumers, vehicles that spend longer on dealer lots are more likely to present negotiation opportunities.”
Methodology
iSeeCars.com analyzed over 1.8 million new car sales from August through December 2019. The number of days that each car was listed for sale on iSeeCars.com was aggregated at the model level, and the average days on market for new model year 2019-2020 vehicles was mathematically modeled.
