The Porsche Cayman GT4: Why Buy A Supercar When You Can Buy A Race Car Instead?
The Porsche Cayman GT4: Why Buy A Supercar When You Can Buy A Race Car Instead?-October 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:36

You can have your fancy supercar with its air conditioning and its heated, massing seats. For $165,000, I’ll take this Clubsport, a helmet, a Nomex suit and a prayer that I’ll stay away from walls.

Today at the LA Auto Show, Porsche unveiled the racing-only Cayman special that’s destined for several competitive series next year. It’s not street legal, but with a full race cage setup, the front and rear strut suspension from the 911 GT3 Cup, a 385 horsepower, 3.8-liter flat six engine, who cares?

Here’s more from Porsche:

The racing brake system features large 15-inch (380-millimeter) steel brake discs all round. One-piece, six-piston aluminum fixed calipers are located at the front, with a four-piston equivalent at the rear. The anti-lock brake system features twelve settings. The Electronic Stability Program has been recalibrated for slick racing tires. The power steering is operated electro-mechanically.

Racing, racing, racing. It beats the hell out of golf.

Total weight comes in at just 2,866 pounds, so as Porsche says, this turn-key race car is ready to kick some ass. Expect to see it next year at the VLN Long Distance Championship Nürburgring, the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada and PCA Club Racing Cayman GT4 Clubsport Trophy East, and maybe I’ll bring it to my local autocross so I can DOMINATE.
