The Replica Ferrari Modena GT Spyder California From Ferris Bueller's Day Off Is Going to Auction (Updated)
The Replica Ferrari Modena GT Spyder California From Ferris Bueller's Day Off Is Going to Auction (Updated)-October 2024

Heads up, eighties film fans: the car from one of the most iconic movies of the decade is going up for auction, and you could be the next lucky owner. That’s right. The not-really-a-Ferrari GT California from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off can be your love and your passion, too.

If you happen to find yourself at the Monterey auction on August 23-25, the ‘85 Modena is going up for sale. You can check out the listing on . Yes, this is most definitely 100 percent one of the cars used in the film. There were only three of these featured in Ferris Bueller, one of which doesn’t run. This, my friends, is one that does.

But as everyone knows, it’s not a real Ferrari: describes it as a tubeframe job wearing a fiberglass shell with a Ford small-block V8 under the hood. That’s why it’s listed as a 1985 Modena GT Spyder California and not, you know, a 1961.

Even if it’s not real, it looks and sounds beautiful. If you want to see it in action yourself, on YouTube went over to check it out in person, and it’s a damn interesting video. Live vicariously through the video’s host as you dip under the hood and go for a spin.

As they mention, you’re not only getting a beautiful car with a mere 1520 miles on it and a place in the Smithsonian Historical Vehicle Association Hall of Fame, but it’s coming loaded with movie memorabilia, too. The car is estimated to sell for $250,000-300,000. Forget that house you were looking at; this is way more important.

If you do head out to the auction and bring this bad boy home, just make sure you lock up your garage when you get back.

As several of you pointed out, our gasoline-addled brains failed to mention that the movie car is not in fact a real Ferrari, but famously a replica. But it’s still neat and fun, so we hope it goes to a good home.

Keith Richards, Tom Hanks' Castaway character, Barack Obama, these are all survivors. You can add to that list today's Mazda RX7, but will its price survive your vote? You know, considering all the Scooby snacks he ate, you'd think that one thing the Mystery Machine would absolutely need is a...

For $3,500, Tercelibrate Good Times, Come On!
A turbo on a Tercel may temper that model's tendency for torpidity, and today's Toyota does claim two hundred and forty three ponies at the tires. Will its price however, be worth taking a vow of Tercelibacy? Did you rock the vote yesterday? I mean, if you're an American citizen...

For $12,500, Have I Got A Proposition For You
Retro TV shows and movie remakes are all the rage right now. Today's Chevy Van is a perfect set piece for re-imagining a beloved Saturday morning cartoon icon, that is if its price doesn't have you sayin' Ruh-Roh. Man, yesterday's was as short-lived as a Donald Trump nano-moment of non...

For $10,000, Show Some Canadian Civic Pride
The seller of today's first-gen Civic says he's just testing the waters with his ad. At ten grand Canadian do you think he's already gone off the deep end? Up until the early ‘70s, Honda was better known in the US as a builder of motorcycles than of automobiles. In...

2014 Subaru Forester: Around The Block
The Subaru Forester has long been the vehicle of choice for outdoorsy people, competent, no-nonsense lesbians, and Vermonters (not to be confused with , a colossal tub of ice cream incapable of purchasing a car), and I don't think that's going to change with the new 2014 model. It's been...
