This Spectacular Legendary Retro Porsche Will Race On The Nürburgring-October 2024

Longtime Porsche shop Kremer Racing is perhaps best known for the Kremer K3—a modified version of the Porsche 935 race car. Now they’re bringing the iconic big flares and flat-nose look of the K3 to a modern 997-generation Porsche 911 GT3 Cup, and not even snow will keep them from testing it.

The original Kremer K3 is one of the most beloved historic Porsches, as it was a that somehow passed as a race car for FIA Group 5 competition. It was highly successful, bringing Kremer Racing a win at the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans.

What better car than to emulate than one that was such a huge success? According to Kremer Racing’s announcement, the sleek, vintage-style bodies are produced by Zimspeed. The cars themselves are headed for the Nürburgring’s VLN Endurance Championship to compete in the series’ Group H category.

Additionally, Kremer Racing mentions that a customer-version body kit for the previous-generation 996 911 cars may also be in the works soon. Tired of looking at your “melty egg” headlamps? This would be the most spectacular way to fix it, hands down.

Best of all, they have kept the rear of the car very similar to that of the original 935-based Kremer K3. There’s a big, angled wing support and the fender flares completely box in the rear taillights. I’m in love.

In the meantime, the team is hard at work testing their modified 997 Cup car. Neither snow nor sleet nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night will apparently keep Kremer Racing from working hard on a car.
