PROTIP: In motorsports, the car should not be on fire. This unfortunate phenomenon cost Trevor Bayne his lead spot during the Nationwide Series race at the Texas Motor Speedway this afternoon.
NASCAR-FIRE - Nov 1, 2014 4_46 PM
Bayne was leading when his car started smoking, struck the wall and then burst into flames. He then managed to guide the car in before exiting, visibly frustrated and covered in smoke. The cause of the fire is unknown at this point.
The good news is he got out in time and wasn't hurt. Still, a sad and disappointing way to end the race, for sure.
Big thanks to Deadspin's Tim Burke for the video
