Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?
I was always raised to believe in quality over quantity. To churn out greatness over great numbers. To look at the way a Rolls-Royce has such and not think "what a waste of metal that can be used to potentially create a for a poor struggling family in Africa," but to think "oh well that looks nice." That's the way I look at this weekend.
After being excited about the idea of a Rolls-Royce fastback, we were a bit disappointed by the…
While there isn't a vast quantity of racing this weekend, there is a (hopefully) vast quality of racing. That's because Formula One is back, after a brief hiatus. We got a really fantastic in-depth look at the thanks to and while we cannot unfortunately bring his talents to Belgium, I can try to give you a brief recap of what the country was like, owing to a few days I spent in Brussels, which is not Francorchamps, Spa, where the Grand Prix is being held:
A 104-degree track, a booze-cooled audience, screaming V8s with Mercedes-AMG at its best and the…
Good beer, especially at the , I think, though I can't really remember as there was a lot of itFantastic chocolate (I recommend Leonidas, it's not too pricey while still being out-of-this-world amazing)Delicious fries, though I'm not sure if you should call them French Fries over there because maybe politics? So let's just stick with "frites"The was pretty neat, although they seem to try to compensate for the dearth of Great Belgian Victories by putting every little thing even vaguely military-related into one big building, including just casually sitting around, which is a weird bit of memorabilia from a , don't you think?Everybody was surprisingly down-to-Earth, always a plus
So there you are, practically in Belgium. Alright, so what I just told you is kind of crap and totally useless for your enjoyment of the Belgian Grand Prix, so here's a bit of actual racing on the Spa-Francorchamps Circuit. Specifically, it's Felipe Massa passing Juan-Pablo Montoya through the infamous Eau Rouge corner, which sweeps massively uphill:
There, isn't that better? Anyways, there's a few other things lined up, including a night race for NASCAR, IndyCar at Sonoma, and a MotoGP race at the Czech Republic, which should be fun. In addition, there's a block of minor-league stuff on Sunday afternoon on FS1 (things like the NASCAR K&N Pro Series and the like) which should be fun if you're locked in the house.
As a reminder, last week the SPEED network changed over the Fox Sports 1, and the FUELnetwork changed over to Fox Sports 2. Weirdly, SPEED2.com is also still a Thing. So in the meantime just to try to keep the changes in mind.
We know there's been a few site changes recently, so in the interests of comfort and familiarity we'll be keeping the races in the body of the posts, as well as on the map. Of course, please use our image annotation tool on the map above to show us races we might have missed, where they're being held, and where we can livestream them.
