Welcome to the Jalopnik , where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?
Though the standard racing season has pretty much come to an end, there’s plenty of tape-delayed coverage on this weekend to keep you from feeling those offseason blues so soon.
Everything other than the Snowball Derby, NASA 25 Hours of Thunderhill and 24 Hours of LeMons will be on tape delay this weekend, and showings include the FIA World Rally Championship’s trip to Italy, Red Bull Air Race in Texas, EnduroCross and motocross, the Trans Am Championship’s final weekend at Daytona International Speedway and several showings of the Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series.
The 25 Hours of Thunderhill will have a live stream and online radio broadcast as listed below, and Flying Lizard Motorsports plans to host a live in-car stream if the team is able to find a good enough connection. If there’s reception in the area, the team will post a link to the live stream on its after they’ve tested it out.
I’ll be attending one of the only live events showing this weekend—the 48th Annual Snowball Derby at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida. For a majority of this race’s existence, a lack of television coverage meant that only folks who made the trip to Florida could see it. now broadcasts the race online, and though it’s a pay-per-view broadcast, this is an event that everyone should see at least once in his or her lifetime.
For those who don’t know much about the Snowball Derby, it’s a no-points Super Late Model race held at the end of the racing season—in other words, it’s pretty much all for bragging rights in the realm short-track racing. When Erik Jones won the race over the , in 2012, Busch hired Jones for his truck team. This year, Jones subbed several races in a Sprint Cup car. Wild, right?
The Pro Late Model ranks will run the Snowflake 100 on Saturday night, and the Super Late Model drivers—entries include names like Chase Elliott, John Hunter Nemechek and Harrison Burton, the son of Jeff Burton—take to the track for the Snowball Derby on Sunday afternoon. Broadcast times are linked below.
If you do tune into the Snowball Derby weekend broadcast and see an uncoordinated blonde girl in the background of a shot, it’s probably me. Feel free to wave.
