Weekend Motorsports Roundup, Jan. 30-31, 2016
Weekend Motorsports Roundup, Jan. 30-31, 2016-September 2024
2024-02-19 EST 22:11:35

Welcome to the Jalopnik , where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?

If you’re in for a weekend at home, you sure came to the right place for your itinerary. And if you weren’t in for one before, perhaps now you will be—it’s Rolex 24 weekend, and coverage will switch between several outlets to keep us all entertained. This weekend kicks off the season for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and there will be —the Ford GT, Ferrari 488, BMW M6 and Lamborghini Huracán GT3.

The end of the offseason is so close, I can almost smell it. It smells like Florida, and in this…

In addition to live Rolex 24 coverage this weekend, Monster Energy Supercross is around again—this time, in Oakland, California. Points leader Ryan Dungey enters the race going for his third-consecutive win, and he just recently . So, if Dungey doesn’t win this weekend, at least he can say that he’s still cooler than the rest of them. (On the arbitrary scale of Wheaties coolness, that is.)

Wheaties cereal boxes have featured famous athletes since 1934, but never a motorcyclist—until now.

Other than those events, the rest of the weekend is on tape delay. But if you plan to kick back and watch the Rolex 24, most of your time will be occupied anyway. For those interested in things other than endurance or motorcycle racing, tape-delayed coverage includes the American Sprint Car Series, Lucas Oil Chili Bowl Nationals, Lucas Oil Modified Series, Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series, AMSOIL Arenacross, Monster Jam, the Baja 1000 and the FIA World Rally Championship.

If you know of any other fun stuff—well, racing stuff—or live streams going on this weekend, feel free to share in the comments below.

I Can't Believe We're Still Talking About Abu Dhabi
Max Verstappen , you may have heard. He won it in in Abu Dhabi — controversial only to people who are not fans of Max Verstappen. I had thought, naively, that at some point we could all move on but, no, the FIA is still investigating the matter, and...

Ice Racing Is The Only Proper Way To Beat On Malaise-Era Cars
Canada is a nation filled with odd but delightful treasures — maple syrup drizzled on snow, butter tarts, and ice racing. And I honestly don’t think anything can top this incredible video of malaise-era ice racing in the 1980s is the epitome of all the best Canada has to offer....
