Welcome to the Jalopnik Weekend Motorsports Roundup, where we let you know what’s going on in the world of racing, where you can see it, and where you can talk about it all in one convenient place. Where else would you want to spend your weekend?
Last week you got plenty of , and the weekend before that you had as well, so I think maybe it's time to take a break from all the drama surrounding it. It's a good thing we've got plenty of NASCAR, then.
We're always being told by People That Know to live in the present, to embrace the moment, to focus
You've got not one, not two, but four, that's right NASCAR series racing this weekend. How do I get four when there's only three series racing in NASCAR? Well, you've got your top-tier Sprint Cup and the next level of the Nationwide Series, of course, and then there's the Camping World series (that's the really cool one with the neat pickup trucks), and then the last is the Whelen Modified series. What's the Whelen Modified series?
Well you'll just have to watch to find out. This is the weekend roundup, not the weekend spoilers!
If you really truly do insist, the Whelen Tour is NASCAR's oldest class, and involves open-wheel race cars on short ovals. Not open-wheel like F1, but kind of like regular NASCAR but with the fenders lopped off. Like I said, you'll have to watch to see what it's really about. I'm sure it'll be good fun.
If you really truly do insist on tracks that go left and right this weekend, that may be a bit of a tall order, what with F1 off and no ALMS going on. Ask, however, and I shall deliver. Not only is there MotoGP in Germany, but IndyCar around a street circuit in Toronto (protip: say "ti-ranno" and you'll sound like a native. Pronounce all the letters and they'll know you're not from there. Or you could say T-Dot if you're trying to be cool. You know what? Don't say T-Dot. You'll sound weird more than anything else. And T-Dot has enough weirdness).
Speaking of weirdness, let's have some history. This weekend's DTM race promises to be an interesting one, as it's being run on the , which is unlike many real-world tracks. It's just sort of a loop with a chicane thrown in. That's not the really weird part though – the weird part is that it's run on the old in Nuremberg. Don't believe me? It's right there, in the Spooky. Still, DTM is great racing, so be sure not to miss it.
We've heard your pleas and we'll be keeping the races and times in the body of posts, as well as on the map for now. Of course, please use our image annotation tool on the map above to show us races we might have missed, where they're being held, and where we can livestream them.
Get it while it's good.
