The was introduced to modern audiences when Jeremy Clarkson drove one through the on an episode of “,” after which it was declared the smallest production car ever made by Guinness World Records in 2010. The ’s original production run was from 1962 to 1965 and only about 50 cars were ever built, but production was restarted after Peel co-owners went on “Dragons’ Den” and got funding to start reproducing them in 2011. This electric 2017 Peel P50 Continuation is up for auction right now.

The Peel P50 is road-legal in the UK and in the U.S. according to Peel Engineering’s website, and the seller says it has license plates. In February 2013, an authentic 1964 Peel P50 sold for over $120,000 at auction, so original P50s are not but this electric continuation model is much more reasonably priced.

This 2017 Peel P50 Continuation is so it has four 12-volt batteries powering a 48-volt direct-drive , which is good enough for a claimed top speed of about 28 mph. The Peel Engineering website does not list or any other performance data for its cars, but the performance is probably widely varied depending on how much you ate for breakfast.

Without a driver this Peel P50 weighs approximately 130 pounds, and it features a single front headlight, dual side mirrors, an electric windshield wiper, 6-inch steel wheels, rack-and-pinion steering, and cross-drilled front disc brakes. The interior is pretty sparse but features a beautifully upholstered fabric seat.

This is a sure-fire way to stand out from the crowd. It’s being auctioned off with no reserve so it will be going to a new home – and the auction ends in just a few hours. Practical applications for this little car don’t really exist, but it is an adorable little runabout that will certainly spread a lot of joy wherever it ends up. Just hope the new owner doesn’t like speeding because a bright red Peel P50 is going to be pretty easy for a cop to spot – and because it’s , of course.

A good car salesman without a job can be a dangerous person. All that industry know-how under their belt can create the perfect storm for fraud if one wanted to go down that road of finessing people out of their money. That’s what happened with one Detroit car salesman....

The other day, as I rifled through the that comprises the Jalopnik archives (it takes up half the office, and most cards have been defaced past the point of recognition with lewd comments and/or falafel recipes), I stumbled on . It was a Friday afternoon hangout, a place for...

Two Nissan Concepts In A Junkyard Remind Us All Cars Go To The Same Place In The End
I didn’t expect to wake up on this delightful Friday on the East Coast and be met with depressing images of once priceless Nissan concepts rusting away at a junkyard, but we don’t always have control over how we start the day. I guess that’s why they say it’s...

Forgotten Cars: Shelby Series 1
It was supposed to be the car that showed that still had it going into the 21st century. But some called it “too ambitious,” and in a way, it was. Surprisingly made for over seven years (from 1998 to 2005) the Shelby Series 1 was, in essence, an almost...

Car Crash Interrupts TV News Report About A Hit-And-Run
People say that lightning doesn’t strike twice in the same place. That well-known idiom is entirely incorrect. Some roads seem to be magnets for road incidents, almost like a lightning rod. A Los Angeles news crew caught a collision live on camera while reporting an update on a prior fatal...
